# Brewhogs explains the science behind its medal-winning Pilsner

Brewhogs has published a detailed look at the fermentation, water chemistry, malt design and Saaz hop choices behind its Premium Pilsner.

## Issued by

Brewhogs Brewmaster · 23 June 2026

## Release brief

Brewhogs has opened up the technical thinking behind Premium Pilsner following its recognition as the highest-rated Czech Pilsner at the 2026 African Beer Cup.

The brewery describes a clean fermentation with a controlled diacetyl rest and lagering at 0°C. Its water profile uses a 1.5-to-1 sulphate-to-chloride ratio to sharpen hop character while retaining rounded malt balance.

Local high-alpha hops establish the base bitterness before Saaz is reserved for late additions, preserving its spicy and floral aroma. The beer is currently listed by the brewery at its Kyalami taproom.

> “This award marks the culmination of years spent refining our approach to one of brewing’s most iconic and unforgiving styles.”\n>\n> — Brewhogs Brewmaster
